A Sudden Renovation

On September 9, 1988, a 1982 Paystar 5000 dump truck owned by Clark Concrete, Inc., crashed into the back room of Kitok’s and a nearby house, where it came to rest. The truck’s steering mechanism had failed, causing driver Gary Davis to swerve sharply to the left. Former Kitok co-owner Robert Moore, husband of Kitok Moore, estimated the damage to be between $20,000 and $30,000. Repairs on the damage began Friday evening, with workers rebuilding the walls and ceiling in the back room and repairing the roof. The following Wednesday, the restaurant was open again for business. In addition to building damage, the incident caused a power outage for about two thousand Texas Utilities Electric Company customers within the area bounded by Park Lake Drive, Maple, Lyle, and Trice Avenues.
